  1. Funny that I still have thread alerts sent to my email from so long ago. here are pictures of the one I built. Weight is taken by the roof rails, secured by the factory roof rack bolt holders and rails. Apologies for the big pictures. The red car is long dead. Jay Hogan
  2. Thanks for the info. I ordered a new axle and got it this morning. From ground to ground, without destroying the lower ball joint, it took about an hour to swap the axle. I remember why I liked these cars so much. Absolutely simple to work on. I checked out your pictures Turbone, righteous RX you have there. Thanks again and take care. Jay Hogan
  3. Hi Subaru aficionados. Long time no see. Good to see this board is still around and flourishing. I do miss my modded RX. People now have really eclipsed what I did back in the day to these older models. I still have one of these EA82 Subarus that I can wrench on. It's my Mom's! She came by the other day with the "slung grease on cat smell", opened the hood and sure enough, busted boot. I'd rather just change the axle than do a boot but I can't recall the spline count for the automatic tranny, push button cars. I think the higher spline count axle were for the turbo cars, but I don't trust that info, it's been in my brain for so long, it could be wrong. So, my question is, What is the correct front axle for the 89 Subaru GL pushbutton 4WD automatic transmission car? J Hogan
  4. No wingum on the second pic, sorry. I've got some of this car a bit more modified if I can find them. Coming straight from 2004. Jay
  5. Thanks for the replies, and of course you can add the picture. Thanks guys, and I'll add pictures of the Brat as he builds it. Jay
  6. Hey guys! My uncle just bought this 78 Brat and is looking to find out the history behind these wheels. I can't say i have ever seen a pair, although my oldest Subaru was an 81. I had to laugh a bit as he said he was looking for one of the high rollbars and the factory brushguard too. Those were hard to find 15 years ago when I was into older Subes. Any info would be great and thanks again. \\\\ I still would like to know what happened to my old Rx with the front mount. Later taters, Jay
  7. This may be old news. I thought it was great. Links to Jokeroo may be nsfw ads. http://id.jokeroo.com/1/?id=21&url_id=1538 Jay edit: Searched, old news. Still cool.
  8. You are welcome to borrow my factory service manuals to dig up info. The year is different(87) but the info should be similar enough to get you started. I would offer to sell them to you but I still have one Subaru to care for and they are very, very handy. Let me know. Jay
  9. I get my cars inspected at the top of Bent Mountain on 221. 25 minutes up the mountain. Reed's Garage. the fellows name is Tim. He's the owner. Always overbooked but honest and reasonably priced. I have also heard that Mitchell's garage going into Garden City is an honest shop. My Bro-in-law takes things there when he doesn't have time to do it himself. My uncle has a transmission shop called Jae Valley Garage, he's booked solid as he does all the transmission work for the local dealerships and works on most of the big RV's in Roanoke too. Can't say I have any shop do anything except exhaust work. Muffler Haus on Plantation road is great. One guy with a torch and a welder. Fair price. Really good work. Never seen that Subaru you speak of. The grey wagon with the pugs is ScotTM. Jay
  10. Does he go to Fast Freddies on Saturdays? That's the only place I would see anything archaic like that en mass. Lot's of nice cars out there. Someone had a real AAR out the weekend of 09/16 , the side had been keyed at his dealership. I'm sometimes suprised at all the old, rare cars that are in and around Roanoke. When you walk around on Sat nights at FF you definately can tell that NASCAR reigns supreme around these parts. Did you get your Brat exhaust fixed? It looked to be a fairly straight forward repair. Jay
  11. Where in Roanoke does someone have 4 Cuda convertibles? Get the exhaust fixed on the Brat? Jay
  12. For the RX? Quarter window? WHO? It's one of the last old subaru parts I have and it's in peril. I let it slide and now I don't recall who wanted it. At least no money changed hands so I'm not slacking that much. Jay
  13. The only EA82 wagon with Pugs on it in Roanoke is ScotTM, my brother-in-law. I gave a thumbs-up and a big 'hell yeah" to a Brat near Hershberger rd and Williamson rd awhile back. blue miata, low to the ground. If that was you it sounds like the Y-pipe under the engine is leaking. I've got some extra piping and a bit of time, you do the grunt work and I'll weld you up a header. Jay
  14. Did you have some guy in a Miata give you the thumbs up in traffic not too long ago? That was me. Keep up the restoration. Jay BTW I'll weld up that exhaust leak if you want to take the pipe off and bring it to my house.
  15. +1 on the 'doesn't seem right' post. You might want to do a search on Scott's past projects. Engage brain, then type. Jay
  16. Welded up an AAV line onto mine and applied some JB weld over the weld for good measure. Looks better painted. Jay
  17. A White Elephant is a term for a gift given to a family to cause them undue distress and financial burden. Pakistan and India swap these types of gifts often. Just seemed fitting. No insult meant. My 87 RX had the same problem, Exact same problem, with fuel when I first got it. Hope you can find some time to work on it. Jay
  18. Sounds like the no fuel is Crank Angle Sensing distributor, but in an 86? What's the build date? What do the connectors to the distributor look like? Square connector or round? Colors of the four wires? Do you know what the term 'White Elephant' means? Jay
  19. All stock RX minus the wings and fairings. Believe me? Jay
  20. I've got a dual range transmission for you with all the goodies. Even the plastic and pedals. Jay
  21. I can get Rota Slipstreams for 109.00. That's 4x100 though for my new autocross car. I like the wheels. Going to look old school hi po. Jay
