  1. It's Ok to dance a jig. I know you did. Don't be ashamed. I did too when mine finally sputtered to life. feels good, eh? Jay
  2. I hope that system doesn't take up too much space in the passengers cabin, you'll need that for your head. J Transmission & R-end?
  3. I know where you can get a spare, uh, car. And a set of slicks only mounted on the RX once. glad you weren't in the wrong part of Atlanta. Jay
  4. What did I miss? Will, quit wasting money on one RX, come to Roanoke and buy mine. Then you can have two to play with. Jay
  5. I won't bust him for his engine. I'll pick on Will about his driving though. Bwah haha hah. If you toot your own horn more than once it's considered ego masturbation ya' know. You're going to go blind! Jay
  6. Nice. Do you have other pictures? I'd like to a better picture of the wheels. Jay
  7. A heavier spring in the front? What's your rationale? I have always thought that a heavier spring in the rear combined with a bit of toe-in caused less understeer and induced sharper turn-in with an all wheel drive car. I have alway treated the RX as more of a front driver when it concerns set-up. LSD not withstanding. I will admit I'm not as hardcore as you seem to be with the Solo 2. Jay
  8. Yes, but how's the ride? Cushy I suspect.(sarcasm) Swaybars are the factories way of compromising for ride quality. I'd like to make an adjustable swaybar for the rear of my RX I still drive mine on the street and would prefer to abuse my kidneys by other means than beating them to death. What's the spring rate F/R on your car right now? Jay
  9. I just found this thread as I searched for pictures of the TWE set-up. DAMN MAN, That's some big, well-crafted exhaust. Where do you expect peak power on this engine? Good Work! Regards, Jay
  10. Thanks for the insight RR. I'm going to go ahead and build the header so I will be getting into that back corner with the turbo. Taking it loose and making the uppipe work. So fun! Going to start with getting the leak fixed and see if that cures the bad mileage. Then I'll start addressing other issues like checking outputs on sensors and such. Caboob, The AAV is essentially part of the thermostat housing and if you move it to the pass side strut tower your going to have to supply it with a coolant source so it will function properly. Are we talking about the same thing? Will, My car has never been able to really get the 205/50's to spin excessively but right now I've got snowtires on the car and it will, in given circumstances, spin the 185/60/14's quite a bit. It's like finding a new toy or something. that might have something to do with the mileage, Eh? I'm also getting a strong odor of rich exhaust after running the car harder than normal driving. If an exhaust leak before the O2 sensor can cause a run rich situation without make the A/F gauge peak(one wire), then I've at least narrowed it down. Tony (Meeky Moose) said that his TWE header on the RX wagon rubs his power steering lines. Does anyone else have that problem? I'm just now working on the 'up' part of the uppipe and I'm trying to get them spaced evenly between the engine and lower crossmember. Thanks for the suggestions. Jay
  11. Merry Christmas and a bump for the JB fab. Would really like input on the mileage issue. Jay
  12. It's cold and my RX is having a time without a 'choke' because, I believe, I unhooked the AAV from the original plenum and plugged it up so I could run the FMIC with all the fabbed up piping. I didn't think I would need the AAV. Well, I was lazy and didn't feel like adding the pipe to the plenum, let's be honest. Now it's cold. The small pipe is the very thin metal tubing under the kidney bean air filter housing from a carb model. Couldn't stay on it very long with the welder because it was so thin so I "GASP" used a bit of the JB weld to make sure no leaking would occur. Notice picture was taken after the application of the JB weld. You really didn't want to see the welds, trust me. Car wouldn't idle up when started. Sounded like a pro stocker lumping with the cams. I think this should take care of that. Also getting bad gas mileage. Do you people think this system, or having it plugged, contributed to the bad mileage? Wouldn't the AAV get hot and lean out even without the flow of air? Am I understanding the mechanics of this system correctly? I have a theory, What's yours? How about the small exhaust leak after the turbo, before the O2 sensor? Causes what? I can smell it running rich too. Air/Fuel gauge is hooked up to the original O2 sensor, so it's just pretty lights. No real hard data. Then again, better rich than lean. Theories are welcome. And comments about the unfinished/unpainted clumb of fabrication welcome. This small exhaust leak is going to cause me to finish the header/uppipe, I can see it coming. Jay
  13. Bwa ha ha. Keep at it Will. You will either break something or find out the secret. Or both. Nice to work in a shop, Eh? Jay
  14. Where did you get the "newer distributor"? That's what it sounds like to me. Does the shaft have any lateral play at all? Jay
  15. What kind/size tire will you be running? Castoffs of are you going to pop for new? The Ecsta V700 slicks I have are great. 205/50/15. Not quite a stock size though. Jay
  16. All the best. I figured it out. And yes ATB to you. What's the toughest comp in the class car wise? Jay
  17. Don't care for the grill. How do you get your paw in there to open the hood? The paint job screams pull me over and search my car. Credit you for being an individual and not a member of the sheeple group though. Take care. Jay
  18. I have a passengers side cam box with the cam still in it from a 87 Turbo car if your interested. It's already off the car. Make me an offer and I'll put it in a box and send it to you. Jay
  19. I haven't done but just the one autocross this year. Finished 4th out of 7 in SM. Overall didn't do too badly. Trounced some Miatas, Neons, 04 GTO, MX6, BMW's.. I also was handed my hat by a built Mustang with a sweet sounding blower, an EVO that was driven badly, a new Mini, and let's not forget about the 05 GT Legacy with Khumhos. Many more. FTD was 61.75 by a Cobra Mustang. In comparison my fastest run was a 69.201. That is, as you know, quite a margin. I had never driven this car with slicks and was astounded by how deep it would go into the corners. The run in the video was the 1st or 2nd out of five. By the third run I was TRYING to lock it up to see where the threshhold was for how deep I could go. At one point I ended up almost at a complete stop about 6 feet from the apex. FYI =You can't turn the car with the front wheels locked up.= That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Eh, practice, practice. I don't live at the top of Bent Mountain any longer, so going to and from work isn't as fun as it used to be. Jay
  20. An older under the hood shot. Since this shot was taken I have plumbed in the recirc valve near the TB. Thanks for the complements Jay
  21. I cut and pasted from the FOR SALE post in the marketplace ad so it might sound like I'm trying to sell it to you. I have swapped the suspension from a 1988 Subaru XT6 including the 5 lug hubs, rear sway bar (21mm? can’t recall), control arms w/camber adjustment, front struts/springs and XT6 brakes front and rear. Front sway bar is the original 13mm. Rear springs are the longer and heavier units from a 1988 Turbo wagon with 1 ½ coils removed for shortening and stiffening. I didn't lower it past parallel so roll center is not adversely affected. I would like it a bit lower but bump steer is a pain in the rump roast when your loaded up in a corner. I completely rebuilt the engine with factory Subaru seals and parts bought from CCR when she was still selling rebuild parts and a set of 260* Delta cams. Heads (GEN3) were gone through and pressure checked. 3 angle valve job. Xt6 lightened flywheel and heavy duty SACHS clutch in late 2003. 2 1/2" exhaust with a huge cat and a FlowMaster from the turbo back. I fabricated the 1 ¾” piping for the front mounted Starion intercooler (modified) and BPV is from a 1988 Mazda MX6 turbo located as close to the throttle body as possible. Boost comes on at 2700 and pulls to redline. I’m still running factory boost. Tires are 205/50/15 Sumitumos mounted on sandblasted and clear coated aluminum 1996 Legacy Outback wheels. I am running 205/50/15 Victoracers for autocross. Didn't mess with the alignment although I should have. What's everyone's opinion on the exhaust note? The other side of the course was better. Spent the whole time dialing tire pressures back and forth. the car does not understeer at all unless I'm an idiot and didn't set up the corner. Wasn't very confortable with the throttle acting like a on/off switch. Not as smooth as it should be. Couldn't get a decel without some kind of driveline lash. TB maybe? Car has been parked for a while. My kid makes me smile too. Regards, Jay
  22. http://rapidshare.de/files/6418179/MOvie.mpg.html Never used a service like this to show others a video. I didn't get the Premium service. I didn't sign in. I don't even have a clue whether this is DUW or not. 20 meg. I say yes to DUW. That's my little boy Archer (4) that you hear in the background. I wasn't trying to thrash the car, it's first time with slicks. Constructive comments and questions welcome. Unconstructive comments met with same. Regards, Jay If you go to the trouble to try to see the video, let me know if it works. JWX, thanks for the tip.
