Air to Water Intercooling

Recommended Posts

Ok....so eventually I will go to an Air/Water IC setup....right now Im going to cahnge my Pit stratagy for the autox to keep the IC cool, the STi TMIC that I have.....so I'll stick with it longer as I cant find the right parts at the right price and some of them are not even avalible.

So....the heat exchanger core....

Ive got a Leone AC condensor core, you know, the rad looking thing that goes infront of the rad onthe car...and one from an 02 WRX.

I was thinking of using that as the heat exchanger core.

However...the only two problems i see with it is...SPACE...and the flow thru it. Im wondering if it will flow enough to be efficient.

Hmmmm....

when i was toying with the idea of an air to water IC setup i thought that a 1000cc superbike radiator would be the way to go as they have the highest thermal exchange value of any exchanger i could get easily secondhand that was small enough to fit in front of engine radiator.

and most of them have an electric fan on them as well

i don't think an a/c condensor had "ports" in it that are large enought to flow the type of volume you need.

I think something along the lines of an oil cooler (bar and plate type) would work much better.

Around here we have a place called Princess Auto...kind of like your harbour freight tools...but they have alot more surplus stuff...Often times they have truck oil coolers, or heat exchangers around.

I also think for it to be effective you need a large reservior....i think you'll need to hold atleast 4 liters in the reservior.....
