DIY speaker adapters

Featured Replies

I looked all over trying to find speaker adapters for my 93 legacy door. I found an adapter at crutchfield ($24!) and I still needed a spacer!

I even found a site where you could download a CNC program to make your own, hmmm if I had a CNC machine.....

So heres what I did. If you look at your stock speaker mount you can see most of the welds. I used a small dril bit to drill the welds out, then used a small cold chisel to pop things apart. As it starts coming apart the welds that were not visible become obvious, drill them out. I then tapped everything back into shape, clamped my new speaker to the frame and drilled new holes in the frame, ran in a couple of small sheetmetal screws and voila!

Here it is, a 6.5" Kenwood 140w speaker in the stock mounting frame.
