'85 RX motor with no knock sensor?

Featured Replies

I got the motor I've been waiting for from Stan and I decided that now would be a good time to start working on it. So I drug it over to in front of the car to pull the heads off and whatnot when I noticed, there was no knock sensor next to the PCV tube near the bellhousing. Does it just like screw into the hole thats there or do I have to tap the threads on in? I can't really tell since theres a bunch of dirt and crap in the hole to see if there are threads in it. So... can I take the knock sensor out of my motor from my '89 RX and just thread it into the hole?

On a side note, I got the motor today obviously and I also got a set of gen 2 heads in the mail today as well. Next will be the stage 2 clutch kit and the TWE header:D

It will screw in the whole but there are some other differences between the knock sensor. All I can remember is that the one used with the hot wire MAF is different then the one use with the vane style MAF.

well I'm using everything else from my '89 but the shortblock and the heads. I'm going to be using the stock intake manifold until I have the money to get a full spider setup for it. Well I'm gonna go take mine out and see if it fits now...

They should both screw in to the same hole, only difference is the 85-86 one is two wire and is wired up to a knock control unit, while the 87+ one has one wire and is wired to teh computer.

Might be interesting if you have to tap that hole, its not very deep and i think its a tapered thread.

well the one from my '89 threaded right on in. Guess Stan must have taken the old one out to put in the new motor in his wagon...
