white slim in vacume line 91 loyale

While replacing a valve cover seal I pulled the vacum line off and discovered alot of white stuff that almost looks like grease but doesn't have the the same texture, more of a water like texture. Any Ideas what could cause this? Al

Also I've noticed some noise coming from the front passenger side of the car. pretty consistent while moving sounds like a rough hum almost, like resistance is coming from somewhere. while the car was raised I turned that sides wheel and noticed a lot of play before the other wheel moved is this normal? any Ideas on what this could be? Thanks for the info ahead of time! Josh

That sounds like a byproduct of when oil and water meet - I would check for water in the oil getting sucked into the engine, or some other similar possibility

the only vacuum line connected to the valve cover should be the one for the PCV system.

I'd pull it all apart and check the PCV valve as well as the hoses for blockages. May not find anything, but it's good to check at any rate.

By "vacuum line" do you mean the PCV hose that goes to the cam cover/housing? If so, this is relatively normal, if slightly disgusting. it is water/oil emulsion, usually caused by condensation in the engine. It should be cleaned out of the PCV system, but is not really a cause for concern.

Not sure about your noise, could be several things.

noise could be balljoints, bearings, tierod, axle starting to go bad.

look at all of them. if the balljoint or tierod boot is ripped, thats prolly where the play is coming from. Anchorage is hell on the undersides of soobs

yeah, all the boots seem to be fine... I do have a cv boot on the opposite side that is torn but side that is making noise is good.. I don't know, sub is all of a sudden falling apart, needs some tlc! So I shouldn't be concerned about the white stuff? Just seemed liked it was really clogged enough when i swung the hose a bunch came out. ( hose connected to the valve cover). thanks again josh

Go buy 5 feet of 5/8" heater core hose and use the old subaru clamps that where on the old hoses. It wont be prebent, but the heater core hose is pretty soft and works fine for the pcv system. Its easier then cleaning the old hoses and they are probably brittle from heat and cold over the years.
