Bad wastegate actuator spring, or what?

Featured Replies

Howdy folks! I could use a bit of help here.

Today I installed my DIY MBC in hopes of upping the boost to 8-9psi or so...With the spring as soft as I can make it, I'm still only barely above 6psi. In fact, with the vacuum line to the actuator completely disconnected, I can only get a touch above 7...with no boost input, it should be overboosting like crazy, no?

Is it possible the spring in the actuator is worn to the point it can only hold that much boost at this point, regardless of the vacuum/boost present in the vacuum line?

Any other ideas? The car runs great, I'd just love to turn it up a notch!

Thanks!

Anybody?

Is the answer to this so obvious that I should already know it?

Hey Fraser

Try pulling the waste gate rod by hand, you should be able to do it but it shouldn't be really easy. I doubt the actuator is the problem, I'd look for leaks in the up-pipe, or maybe there is a problem with the turbo I've seen thr seat area for the waste gate valve cracked and eroded pretty badly. If you still think it could be the gate, wire it shut and try it... carefully.
