Oil Pan Gaskets...OEM?

Featured Replies

I purchased an aftermarket oil pan gasket to use as a template for the oil pan I am fabricating out of aluminum with cooling fins to help with the oil temperatures my engine will see. Last week I also ordered the entire gasket kit for the EA82T (thanks WJM) that I am about to overhaul. The OEM and aftermarket gaskets are very different. With the many threads on this web site about oil leaks on these engines I am sure some of them would be caused by using this aftermarket oil pan gasket. It looks like it was cut from a bulletin board. Very course. The OEM gasket looks like they took cork and rubber, ground it together, and then pressed and cut it to shape. No visible voids at all. I am all about finding a "good deal" but having to do something twice is not a good deal. This is one area that is worth the money.
