Tin Soldier
so for all you who were rooting for me I got the new sube from new york and drove it home. Here some new you know you're addicted to subarus when: you drive a beat up Toyato Corolla leaking gas 420 miles one way to get a subaru you've never seen. you drive above suby 470 miles home (got lost), under it's own power. You know your wife is getting addicted when: she goes with you both ways she says, lets trade my Toyota in on a 80's suby. Ok so for my question.... anyone ever put heilcoil(spark plug hole fixer) in an ea82?
Guest subu luvr
helicoil is expensive, but better than stock, for durability and strength. probably cost between 25-35 for parts, and the rest is silly simple drill it out, thread it, blow/suck out the chips insert the threads, crossthread your plug in if you set that cylinder to the power stroke you have both valves closed, makes it a bit less spooky when thinking about all those little curly troublemakers
Guest subu luvr
forgot to mention a nifty tool called a thread chaser cleans up threads in a few turns, usually by hand. might save you going through the helicoil toil.
Tin Soldier
Ok, one of my clients is an auto mechanic and just happened to have the heilcoil to fit my dl and the tools to do it. Took me little less then an hour (I was being very careful). The plug is in the car fired right up and ran like it's old dog self. 180K rolling strong. Tell me about this gapping of plugs and setting timing advance, cause I think mine is all screwed up. - cost of heilcoil $0 (when you know someone who has em) - cost of tools to put in heilcoil $0 - healing skinned knuckles $2 for triple antibiotic ointment - Subaru with 3inch lift and 180K kept on the road - PRICELESS
