Won't Idle

Featured Replies

Hey Gang, got an E-81, 81 Brat, runs fine, starts easy, but it won't idle,.. has new plugs, air filter, and clean gas. It ran and idled fine the last time I took it out, but now it dies every time you let off the gas, what's up with that?:banghead:

Thanks

If you figure it out let me know.. mines does it too. I think it's a vacuum leak.

Yeh, it might be a vacum problem, but I've checked all the lines and they seem to be O.K. It just doesn't make sense. It worked fine the last time I had it out, and I've done nothing to it!:-\

Guess I'm going to have to find a manual! Don't know where to look for a "idle air control valve?" Can you decribe it? If that's the problem, what's the fix? I don't need this to pass emissions.

Thanks

idle air control valve?

carbed car - a non-turbo EA81 Brat won't have one

unscrew the idle mixture adjustment screw and shoot carb cleaner down in there, and try again (make sure you know how many turns it should go) sometimes they crap up

the anti-dieseling solanoid could also be the culprit as it cuts fuel off to the idle circuit when engaged - could have gotten stuck or something
