Hey everyone, great site!

 

I'm looking buy either an OBS or a WRX Wagon within the month. I test drove both but prefer the performance of the WRX. Problem is that I drive about 30,000 a year and need a vehicle that will last me a good 150,000 + miles. I have no doubt the OBS fits the bill but what about the WRX? I'm concerned about the reliability of the turbo and the costs associated should I have to replace it. I'm curious of the mileage some of you have on your turbo engines and if anyone has experienced or heard of any turbo or turbo realted problems?

A turbo engine if well designed, as Subaru is, will last many miles as oil is changed regularly. I have owned a Saab turbo and it lasted on OEM turbo till 250k and then sold it so I do not know the outcome. I currently use and likely will alway use dino oil unless the car specs otherwise. Your miles are easy however remember the WRX requires premium, this is something to consider given you drive 30k a year.

 

I am have good faith in my WRX and expect no issues related to turbo during my ownership. However just like life anything can happen any day.

Thanks for the reply...after reading another thread on this site I am also considering the Saab 92x AERO. With a $7,000 rebate the price is hard to beat. I test drove one tonight with the sport package, auto tranny and cold weather package. Sticker price was $23,495.00.

 

 

The price of premium is nothing new to me, I drive a Focus SVT right now and it requires premuim as well.

One of the local dealers tells me that they have never had to replace a turbo on a WRX.
