i have a 2WD 1986 2bbl EA82 5 speed. When i start it up and drive it from cold,it purrs. The problem I am having is when I restart the motor when it is warm, it drives fine for 2-3 minutes then stalls. It will not restart until it seems I get some sort of backfire in the exhaust, or it completely cools off. I can get it to start by goosing the accelerator but it will not run if i engage the clutch while goosing.I have a parts car that was running until the belts went (It had a bad rod knock so I found another car). I have moved many of the usual suspects over. They are carberator,distributor,coil,fuel pump.

I installed NGK wires and did the whole tune up thing.

Anybody with any ideas?

You may want to check the fuel pump relay. The relay on my '86 GL 4wd is up under the dash near the steering column.
