June 7, 200520 yr The blower switch on one of my Legacies has ceased to operate in Positions 1, 2 and 3. Everything works in Position 4. I assume the problem is the blower motor resistor? Can anybody give me a 'blow by blow' account of how to get at it and replace it please? Gil
June 7, 200520 yr remove glove box, look at resister pack straight ahead, remove it, insert new one, and reassemble. it's very easy. here's a good pic http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru/images/accomp/DCP_2945.JPG
June 7, 200520 yr You really can't clean the evap box out just through the hole for the resister pack. I guess you could look in, and see how icky it is though
June 8, 200520 yr I had some leaves, pine needles, seeds etc. on the bottom of the box which I was able to blow out, and also sprayed some mold killer on the evap. It would be a different matter if the evap. core is all gummed up, but it's important to know that the resistor hole gives access to the evaporator.
June 29, 200520 yr Where can I get a replacement resistor pack? How much does the part cost? My 1998 OBS is having the same problem (only working on position 4).
July 4, 200520 yr The resistor pack is meant to be in the air flow for cooling; if the air flow is restricted in any way, the resistors will overheat and fail pre-maturely.
