cat shroud

Featured Replies

An extra y-pipe I have has the cat on it - and the top of the shroud on it has a 2 1/2 or so inch round short pipe straight up (just a few inches tall). I'm *guessing* that this is supposed to route somehow to the air cleaner box for choke operation???? Just a wild guess, but it's the best thing I could come up with, LOL. The y-pipe I have now has started to leak, so I am considering putting this one on.......

Yes, that sounds like the heat riser for a carb'd engine... just a heated air thing. Shouldn't be any problem using it, unless there is a difference between ASV setup between yours and the car it came off of (as in, one used 1 ASV adapter and the other had none or two).

Thats for a pr-heat tube. Not really to do with choke. Exept that if you have one it may help the engine warm up faster. I see few old Soobs that still have the tube. They seem to do fine without them. They are a aluminumy/papery/cardboardy wierd stuff, flexible, shortlifespan, disposable, too expensive don't need it in the first darn place kind of a thing.

On the other hand somepeople probably like them.

That other Y-pipe should work fine.

That y-pipe allows hot air for the carburetor to be sucked up into the air cleaner intake through a corrogated aluminum hose. Helps in the winter time when the flapper in the air cleaner housing redirects warm air into the carb until the engine warms up.
