I have a 93 4x4 Loyale (auto trans) with only 32k on it but im noticing the catalytic converter which is visable from opening the hood is somewhat rusty and the top part of the heat shield is loose to the point its ready to fall off. The heat sheild was rattling and thats what got my attention. So the question is, where is a good place to buy a new catalytic converter for this car and is there anything i should buy that may be better than stock? Or should I just remove the heat sheild and call it a day.

the cat is integral to the y pipe, relly to replace it you should find a whole y pipe. some yards cant sell them though because of the cat. but if you are resourceful enough you should be able to find one

 

if nothing else have the heat shield removed or welded up. if you remove it you can have a plate made over the top to protect the axle boot
