ignition question

Featured Replies

Hello everyone I just arrived in Japan about six weeks ago and I bought my first Impreza two weeks ago. My question is my ignition is getting stuck...well the key at least...so I tried to change it out with another ignition however I'm having some trouble getting the old one off. Has anyone removed and replaced an igniton before...if so can you help? Thanks

Are you sure it's faulty? Maybe you just need to press the key in when you turn it from ACC to OFF.

Lol...I wish it were operator error...unfortunately it takes about 2to3 minutes to actually get the key out...and two days ago it started acting up when I try to start the car.

Had same problem once. A new key solved it.

I had two ignition keys cut from a very worn original, and one day had to use the spare key. It worked fine starting the engine, but when I tried to remove it, it got stuck. I cursed, thumped the wheel, whimpered, and about five minutes later managed to get the key unstuck. I didn't have the original key so I had to reuse the spare. It got stuck again. Trying various things, I found I could remove the key while the engine was running! But when I turned it off, the key got stuck. Eventually I got it out, and then threw the spares away.

I've been meaning to head to the dealer to get a real key cut; one dealer I went to said they couldn't do it even though I have an original key. Will go to another dealer this week.

Well I've taken the car to the Subie dealer here, and the tumblers were bad in the ignition so they are ordering the new part and I'm have to get new keys cut...it sucks, but at least it's getting fixed.
