July 8, 200520 yr i am going to change my ATF fluid and am wondering what brand perfoms the best. RED LINE Royal Purple Ams Oil tried any???
July 9, 200520 yr though i have a 5spd,i have heard good things about royal purple.seeing that atf is used for power steering, maybe i'll try it out to see what effects i get
July 9, 200520 yr I have always had excellent luck with Mobil and Mobil1 products. I'm extremly loyal I guess you would say when it comes to the fluids in my car. Always mobil fluids, Sunoco (or Mobil) gas, and chevron fuel system cleaner. If you want extremely good protection, I'd get the Mobil 1 ATF. about $5 bucks a quart.
July 9, 200520 yr How are you going to put that good stuff into the trans. Id like to put in some higher quality fluids but I would hate to mix it with the old burnt up fluid. atf fluid change check out this forum for more info.
July 9, 200520 yr Eh, if you keep doing flush and fills, like 3 or so, you'd pretty much have new good fluid in there. You could also do a flush and fill and that would have new fluid. I put it in because we just bought the car used and the tranny fluid was never changed it looks like. So since I new I'd be doing at least 2 drain and fills and I had to fix a tranny pan leak, I new I'd get alot of the old stuff out.
July 9, 200520 yr Redline ATF has worked for me I currently use it as my power steering fluid on the race car Jamie
July 9, 200520 yr MiniTransAm--by "flush-and-fill" do you mean to disconnect the ATF return line from the radiator and put it in a container of fresh fluid, putting a "disposal" tube from the radiator's output and feeding it into a clear container, then running the engine until the fresh, clean fluid starts to come through? Never tried it since my Legacy is 5spd, but remember reading about it on some other board awhile back. Does this system work on a Subaru? Seems like a good idea--especially if your swapping to a high quality, more expensive fluid.
