alternator help

Recommended Posts

I need to replace the alternator in the '88 RX and just want to know if it is easy enought for me to do or if I should have someone else do it. The one on the Brat was very simple, but the RX is more cramped. Is there anything I should know or watch out for?

Super easy man. One of the best repairs to take on yourself if you are new to doing engine repairs. Should be two bolts, one nut on the back and a plug in the back. Might be a good time to replace that v-belt also. Make sure you unhook the battery before messing with the power wires in the back. Also be sure to get the belt TIGHT when you put the new alternator back on. I usually stick a small cowbar down under the alternator on the drivers side and pry up then snug up the bolts to get it tight.

Ok, I got thenut, plug, bolt on the top, and the long one on the bottom. It moved freely side to side, but I can't pull it off. Am I missing something else or are they just on pretty tight? Thanks for you help and encouragement
