Auto tranny life spans

Featured Replies

I would like to hear from people about how long their automatic transmissions lasted. True, lack of maintenance can cause premature death, but I think all auto trannies wear out and wanted to get an idea of how long people's transmissions have lasted.Thanks.

125k miles, so far (I'm sure I jinxed it now :) )

97 Outback, 452,000 km.

I've changed the fluid a few times (use synthetic).

The clutch pack was replaced last year (probably around 400k km, which is about double the usual life in the 97 model).

I have a 1993 Impreza with original transmission. As far as I know, no work has been done on it, but I am the second owner. There was no paperwork to suggest that any transmission work has ever been done. So far it has lasted 180k with no problems yet. -Knocks on Wood-

I've got a 92 Legacy wagon AT with 241K. It binds in turns, but aside from that is fine. All I've done is regular changes of the fluid and filter.
