My first Subaru

Featured Replies

Hey everybody,

Just got my first Subaru a week ago... 1996 Impreza Outback 5speed... I know lots of people that have Subarus and absolutely love them...

Of course, now im into playing with it... and want to do a few things... I have a few questions:

Looking to replace the linkage shift bushings (maybe both front and rear), I can't seam to find front Urethane ones for the 96. I found them for 97+, but nothing below that... I have found the rear bushing, Any suggestions for the front?

The wheels are really bad lookin... they seam to have corroded underneath the clearcoat on the aluminum (probably because of the salt used on the roads during winter here, or poor maintanence)... Any suggestions for this? Best thing i've found online is to use paint thinner to strip off the clearcoat, steel wool them down, and re-clear-coat them... thats alot of work (but doable)

Bought a Chilton manual for the car... i'm planning on installing some goodies i have around here... a remote keyless entry, pioneer deh-6700mp radio, ipod connector unit too... all of which should be pretty easy mods

Since the car was used, it has some scrapes on the bumpers... anybody have a good experience with aerosol can touch up paint? If so, any certain brands?

Don't know what else yet... but i'm sure glad that I found these forums :)

Thanks!

Brad

check out:

They have much more info in the area of mods/upgrades to the Impreza.

Also, I think the Haynes manuals are better than Chilton's, but that's just my opinion.

what color is the car??? I usually have nothing but trouble with the touch up spray cans. But I also loose my paitence. If it's dark colored I would strongly advise against it. As the paint will show up much more on a darker car.

its two-tone navy and beige.. the beige is the part that needs touched up...
