Sounds

Hey Guys,

My '86 GL auto is making a higher pitched rattle/knock/plastic squeaking sound from what sounds like the engine. It is more noticeable at highway speeds, above ½ throttle. If it starts making the noise and I push he go pedal down father sometimes it goes away, and sometimes it gets a bit louder. I've had the car for a week now, and it came with receipts for a rebuilt engine with new heads, etc.

Anyone know what this might be?

Thanks,

Mike

hmmm..... my solution to everything is to check the diff fluid, lol. I really can't think of what it could be... just thought I'd post so somebody might see it.

I had a mystery highway sound at any speed over 60... sounded like a hailstorm on my roof... turned out to be the C-pillar's trim pieces, coming loose at one end and vibrating.

It sounds like a vibration. Get under the hood, when the engine's cold, and wiggle everything you can reach. Yank on all the outside trim too, including mudflaps, bumpers, mud shields inside fenders, etc. If it sounds like plastic, wiggle plastic parts first. Let us know if you find anything suspicious, or have any other insight (like associated symptoms, power/drivetrain trouble, etc).
