if you are interested in my saga at all. I have gotten my car to run.. its still got blowing head gasket but very light... so I am going to pull the motor... and do both sides... and new belts.. all that other stuff...

Q: is motor removable with just you and friend to lift it out?

Q: Best brand for replacement parts

Q: What is the full over haul procedure I.E. New waterpump oil pump timing belts and new Gaskets?

Anything else I should know before I start?

ZOOM-ER for those who don't know how to say my name....

Yes, possibly, but better to have a third...I used two nylon slings and an 8 ft pole (pipe etc.) layed across hood, dropped slings on each side under heads and snugged up, put a guy on each end too lift up, one to pull motor forward and wiggle... Assure radiator was removed prior to pulling. Possibly a slight lift with floor jack under tranny to re-install.

:o I am a "Noob with a wrench" so others can take it from here......

OEM Subaru by far. If you do your research you can find the manufacturers of Subaru's parts and get them a little cheaper if money is tight. IMO, non genuine parts are not worth the money you pay for them for my experience. My waterpump is 1/8" too small for the timing covers. Subaru parts are the only thing to go onto my car from now on.

1- If you and your friend are both reasonably strong, the motor is easily removable by 2 people.

2- OEM subaru is the way to go

3- This realy depends on how far you want to go and how much you want to spend. I spent about $200 and got a complete gasket kit from a board member that worked at a dealership. It had every gasket I needed (and a few I didn't)
