i have a 1990 legacy with a 2.2 and automatic. i was driving it the other day going about 60 mph and i heard a clunk and the transmission shifted out of drive and into 3rd and now will only go into 3rd and no reverse. just wondering if anyone has any idea how bad it might be.

Sounds like you lost 4th gear. Don't know how "bad" it is, however I doubt it will come back. That trans will either have to be rebuilt, but personally, I'd recommend finding a used one to swap out with.
