Throaty engine chug

Featured Replies

After a recent offroading session during which I bottomed out and got stuck a few times, I noticed my engine had a way different sound to it. It now as an underlying deep throaty chug as if I put some new muffler on it. Hopefully nothing to worry about? Nothing seemed to be wrong with performance, just that louder deeper chug. Maybe just an exhaust leak or I whacked somewhere that put a hole somewhere in the exhaust system. Actually sounds kinda cool but I am still a little concerned about what I may have done.

that happened to mine, i put a hole in the muffler though. it wasn't really a throaty chug, more of a small-engined airplane drone. tough to explain.

you look at your exhaust system. start at the y-pipe. does the heat shield look damaged? is everything (y-pipe to exhaust) lined up correctly (bolts)? does the muffler look damaged?

sorry about the disjointedness, its tough for me to make sentences sometimes.

No worries, I never complain about free help! I'll give the exhaust system a full lookover tomorrow. I just hope I don't mess up anything major.

I'm thinking an exhaust gasket somewhere came loose or split off? This is pretty loud almost and I really need to try to quiet it down a bit. Anyone have ideas?
