98 2.5 O-ring heads

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried the O-ring cure for 98 2.5 heads? If so who performed the machine work? Thanks pke906

I don't know anyone that's o-ringed Subie heads. It would seem like a challenge on an open-deck block no?

A buddy of mine that builds and races miniature 2-stroke outboard hydroplanes mentioned that it's standard practice on "gasket-eating" race motors to mill the block deck about .001-.002 lower than the bore-liner to get a little more crimp at the pressure edge.

He suggested it as a potential solution for the Subaru head-gasket problem. Still, it sounds like a pricey venture for anyone that doesn't have access to a machine shop.

1500 mi. on 98 2.5, heads milled .004 , valve grind, copper o-rings installed around combustion chamber, oem gaskets, new head bolts, torque to factory spec. machine work by Watson Ruppel performance Sarahsville Oh. 740-838-6405 work by owner runs great so far, will keep you posted pke 906

overkill for standard vehicle applications as the new headgasket design solves the headgasket problem.

some nifty work though, and interesting idea about milling the block surface. very cool idea.
