The little lady's '97 Legacy 2.2L Wagon is the only vehicle in my garage that I haven't done much upgrading for performance on. So far I've only changed the wire/plugs and put in a K&N replacement air filter [i did clean off her MAF sensor with a Q-Tip/ rubbing alcohol & that helped].

I run Mobil One oil & have been using Purolator oil filters in her.

I was thinking of replacing the CAT with a higher flowing one and getting some sort of replacement muffler. I know I could probably 'gut'/drill out the stock air box for some more airflow but what else is there to do in terms of 'mods'?....And are there preferred CATs/mufflers for these cars?....I don't think I'd be willing to do any kind of major exhaust system replacement like a CAT-back, etc., just wondering what's available 'off-the-shelf'.

you could always get the gt exhaust from the cat back, that would be bigger diameter, and would bolt right up......
