  1. Looking at a 2009 forester, only thing I'm not too sure about is the PZEV.... I know it stands for "partial zero emission vehicle" but what's the difference between that and the regular forester? Will I still be able to mod it the way I want too, or is it one of those stupid things that I can't change?
  2. I'm lookin at picking up a 2005 outback 3.0r LL bean edition, anyone have any pros or cons to this wagon? I'm just looking for reliability issues, things that go wrong and cost a lot, things like that... Thanks guys!
  3. It's been a long time since I had an ea motor apart I'm my garage, I apologize for the miss information, I thought the n/a motors had a small amount of dish to the pistons....
  4. The header looks like the one I have in my garage for the ej models. Mine is a borla, good header, a bit pricey these days though... I'm going to guess that the op's car has an ej22 in it from the early 90's legacies as they had dual port heads until 95 I believe.....
  5. I always believed that the only stupid question was the one not asked. And yes, it's probably easiest to store it elsewhere... Plus, not being under the hood makes it easier to change a tire when the spare isn't super hot....
  6. I'm jealous! I always wanted a 4wd sedan, just can't find them here... I can't even find a 2wd one.. maybe someday I'll find one... Nice looking car too, have fun with it!
  7. I don't know about the ea81 series, but my 89 wagon had a "flat tire hold down" area in the back. It had a threaded stud that would screw into a designated hole in the back, and a wingnut with a washer attached to it. Slide the wheel over the stud, through one of the lug holes, and simply tighten the wingnut.... That's how I stored my spare... Of course I also used a full size spare instead of the weak sauce donut spare.... Even if you don't have the factory parts you could probably rig something up to make it work....
  8. I'm guessing more of a flat top piston, instead of the dished pistons in the U.S. model... Would be kinda nice to get ahold of some though.....
  9. Last time I was on this site (I admit, it's been awhile) I read something about somebody looking I to a carb swap for an EJ motor... Anyone actually do this yet? I prefer carbs over F.I. Just because they are easier for me to fiddle with, and while the EA series is bomb proof, there is next to no aftermarket for them.. I happen to enjoy my lightweight flywheels, 4.44 gears, EJ AWD, aftermarket cams, but I prefer the look of the 80's subarus, always have....
  10. Found a cheap one with a "sudden knock" coming from the engine.. Guy says it happened over night and he thinks it's a spun bearing. I don't claim to be a master mechanic, but I can rebuild a subby motor no problem... Real question is, would a spun bearing really cause this knock? I haven't heard it yet, plan on going to check it out this weekend, but I've never had a spun bearing cause a knock.. In my experience the motor just quit working all together... He's asking $2000 for it, my budget is around $2500, so I figure worse case I can always do a mild rebuild on it and be ok, any thoughts about the spun bearing?
  11. i believe there is company called King Springs makes 2 inch lift spring for the forester... kingsprings.com maybe?
  12. like it says, im lookin to purchase an 03+ forester with a manual trans..... anybody have any input about em? good or bad, i just want other peoples opinions...
  13. so im lookin at geting a 99 legacy outback but had a few q's to ask the guru's first..... what years did the 2.5 have issues? when did they change the dohc for the sohc? are there any problems i should look for? thanks in advance for any input guys!!
  14. ive never had this problem before, i have no clue why its doing this. all i know is that i am not going to mount a switch to my dash, or anywhere else in my car unless i absolutely have to...... untill that day comes, im just going to have to find someone to help me with it that can actually look at it in person and help me figure it out..... thanks for all your replys,
  15. followed the diagram exactly, and heres the problem. the lights are on all the time, except when the low beams are on. high beams, the lights work, low beams, they dont work, everything good so far....... turn the car off, and the hellas are still on...... i undid everything and tried again. this time i noticed that the relay clicks when the ground wire is connected......... any ideas? i've tried everything i can think of and i get the same result every time, im out of ideas..... im trying my best to not use the supplied switch. im lookin to have the lights go on with the high beams.....
  16. still working on gathering the parts....... wifey doesnt like me spending too much on the car and anything over $50 is too much........ so it might be awhile, but i still plan on doing the swap.....
  17. im geussing that the fuel mileage would drop alot because of lack of horsepower. the 2.5 has around 160ish b.h.p. and the 1.8 has 90 ish b.h.p.? yeah, you would work that 1.8 to death. not to mention the fact that it would take you forever to accelerate. the forester weighs alot more than the little impreza that it came in........ i would say stay away from it, its definately not worth it in my opinion.....stick with the 2.5 and try some other things. like a full exhaust and maybe an intake..... quite a few performance upgrades will actually help with gas mileage, they just dont advertise it...........
  18. sweet car....... i wish i had the money to do that......
  19. i had heard somewhere that a nissan 240sx tranny would work. something about using the bell housing from an auto subby tranny and then making an adapter plate to mount it to the nissan tranny....... but i could be wrong......
  20. so i was just lookin at a justy, and had a thought..... how hard would it be to swap fwd impreza hubs to the justy? obviously you would need custom half shafts, springs, and maybe even strut tops........ anyway, the reason being that way, you would have adjustable camber, as well as better brakes, and the best part would be better wheel selection...... tell me what you guys think? Ideas, suggestions? Im open to everything........
  21. i've got one or two that i will have to post when i get home today...... nothin special, but some good pics....
  22. i actually looked on tire rack and found that the kumho MT KL71 is close to the same size if not the same size, but a heck of alot more agressive....... the tire size is 235/75/15 whereas the stock tires are 205/70/15..... not much difference, but much more aggressive.......
  23. how much, and where can i find em? im open to all websites and possibilities.... lookin at gettin me a newer subie and was thinkin forester because it has more head room for bigger people and for my bikes in the back..... but i would have to lift it and put bigger tires on it, just my style..... any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!!
  24. anyone know if the front springs from the h6 would fit in a 90 legacy? i know that the rears wont work, but im asking about the fronts......
