  1. ive looked into this some and if you get one for an early 80's toyota pick up, you should be able to modify it some to work right.... you just have to pay the cash for it, its not cheap... thats the only drawback....but, other than that, i used some shop vac tubing and some pvc pipe for one before, worked out quite well, the downside to that was that it kinda killed the breathability of the motor. it had problems getting to and staying at highway speeds, not that it didnt before, but the snorkel only made things worse. that was on a ea82 wagon though, dont know how it would do with an ej motor. might have to try it sometime...
  2. really wish i could be there, but saturdays are the only days im free to do things, so.............. i wont be there, bummer
  3. honestly, its much easier to pull the tranny, alot less to deal with taking off, plus all you need is a pair of jack stands and a floor jack....and all of the regular tools of course.....
  4. exhaust will help, you can get a borla hearder for the 2.5 for less than $500, then there is also the option of cams, i believe you can get some from boxer4racing.com for less than $500. it really all depends on how many times you want to spend your $500. I personaly have never heard anything about a high flow intake messing with sensors and what not, but i am not an expert on those things, but i would assume that it wouldnt mess things up if you get a good quality aftermarket part.......just my .02
  5. i am currently running outback struts with the stock springs on my 90 legacy wagon. the ride stiffens up a wee bit, but not a whole lot. as for the outback springs, you could use them in the front without any problems, except for the swaybar maybe not working right. however, the rear is a different story. in order to use the springs in the rear you would have to drill new mounting holes as the stud spacing on the strut top is closer to that of the front on the rear tophats for the outback. you can do it, but there are other things you would have to do as well. The swaybar would no longer reach, as it would be resting on the gas tank because the suspension is so much longer, so you would have to put in some spacers somewhere to even it out. then theres the other issue, the strut body would rub against the car, so you would have to pound on the inside of your wheel well some to make it so it wont rub. your rear camber would end up off alot, and you wouldnt really be able to fix it, you could maybe try camber bolts, but it might not work. just a tip though, when and if you do swap over the struts, disconnect you rear sway bar from at least one side to make install easier. when you finish, the rear of the car will beabout an inch higher than the front, other than that, its super easy to do. the hardest part for me was the spring swap from stock struts to the outback ones..........as for the lift, its about 1.5 to 2 inches with just the struts, use the springs and get about another 2 inches or so, at least thats what ive heard.
  6. the only thing i can think of is to extend the trailing arms. get two sets, cut em both at different spots, then overlap and weld, finish it off with some plate stock on the backside to box it in and increase strength. or you could just make your own with some tube stock...
  7. you will stil be able to get back to your stock settings if thats what your wondering about..... if you use the springs you might want to look into getting camber bolts......
  8. my geuss would be that the clutch will bolt right up. im using a lightweight flywheel for a wrx on my legacy with a stock legacy clutch, so i dont see why a 2.5rs clutch cant fit your legacy...... just get part numbers and compare, if they ar the same, your good, if not, you might want to check things out. like bring the pressure plate with you and check to see if the holes line up or not.... i dont think the tranny will be an issue, just dont drive it like you stole it all the time and you'll be ok.....
  9. the bfg's are on tirerack for $94 a pop, not exactly cheap, but not too expensive either......
  10. from what i have heard, they are no longer in production, so you might want to try and find a different tire. i also couldnt find em, and i looked everywhere.
  11. i have done a few mods to my 90 wagon, but even when there are people in the car i can still tell that it doesnt go quite the same..... it might just be that its an old motor, dunno, but anyway, heres what i have done. i started with an aftermarket intake for a 2.5, then borla header setup with a stromung track pipe, eliminating the first cat, a better flowing muffler, and then a lightweight flywheel. noticable power gains in the mid rpms. i still need to do the rest of my exhaust which is going to be aftermarket mid pipe and muffler for a legacy 2.5gt. it will need to bee shortened some, but my exhaust diameter will then be the same size the whole way through making for more flow..... really there arent many ways to get more power out of the 2.2, you just need to get creative. my next mod will require an engine rebuild as im going to replace the crank with that of a 2.5 crank, as well as the heads, and then some aftermarket cams. its all about how you spend your money, but iff you really want more power, and you dont mind swaping out motors, i would just swap out the 2.2 for a 2.5, just keep your wiring and sensors, and it will work...... just remember, subarus are like legos, any part will fit on any car.. just get creative.
  12. i havent finished my exhaust yet, but i am running the borla header on my 90 legacy as well as a light weight flywheel, the lightest i could find that runs it at around 11 lbs i think, but i have never had the problems you speak of.. i would look more towards the electrical/brain of the engine side of things..... i have never known a car to die from the exhaust being too big, you would just lose power instead, almost kinda like the feeling of a catalytic converter dying.... you might also want to check your fuel system, things like fuel filter and whatnot.....
  13. first of all, is it possible? has it been done before? has anyone ever heard of it being done? i just think that propane would work better on an offroad vehicle, not to mention that its cheaper than gas and is effectively a 110 octane from what i hear...... the benefits are many, so i figured id see if i could get the legacy converted.....
  14. i have run a 27inch tire without any mods other than outback struts on my 90 legacy so you tires should fit..... i have heard that if you run the outback springs, which requires some holes to be drilled to fit the rears, you could be able to run up to a 29 inch tire, possibly bigger if you modify more. its really all about how much you want to spend.....
  15. you can fit 27's without trimming or rolling the fenders after you install outback struts, so you dont really need to trim, after you install outback springs you will have more than enough clearance.
  16. i have the borla headers for a 2.5 on my 90 legacy.... they actually have a header for the 95+ 2.2 its the same design, just made for single port exhaust
  17. any suggestions? thats the last peice i need and i cant seem to find anywhere that sells one.....
  18. i was just wondering if a mid pipe for a 93-01 impreza would fit my 90 legacy..... i need some exhaust parts, but cant seem to find any that will work for the right price.......
  19. it will work on your 90 2.2, but not on a 95+ 2.2, different heads... i got mine from renickmotorsports.com... good guys. i paid $250 plus shipping, but price might have gone up some since then....
  20. im looking into going the other way with it... i want a d/r tranny in an ej car, so im not going to worry about wiring.... just everything else....
  21. i actually did very well with my old wagon.. all i did was crank up the suspension and then put some 14"pugs and some mud tires and i was fine..... oh and i also had to trim the fenders some after all was said and done... but it was cheap, and it worked for what i needed it to do......
  22. id really like to do this swap, im just not too keen on me making an adapter plate..... was it hard at all? or was it a walk in the park?
  23. the rears will be different i believe... at least mine are.. the rears are narrower at the top.... just double check first.....
  24. just curious, but why swap axle parts around? whats the gained advantage??
  25. i would imagine that its the same type of lift used on every other subaru.... just a simple body lift.... cant be that hard.....
