Help...won't idle under 1000rpm

Featured Replies

my '87 GL wagon has always ran great, but then all of a sudden about a week ago, it all of a sudden refused to idle. If i held it about 1000 rpm, it did just fine, but anything under, it would start to spudder and then die. I let it sit for a few hours and then everything was fine. Just last night it started doing the same thing again. But after sitting all night, it still wont idle on it's own. Any ideas? I'm hoping maybe just the carb is too dirty, the car has a lot of miles and has been sitting for a long time before i got it. I would appreciate any ideas.

My car won't idle under 1800-2000rpm but thi is happend after I run out of gasolin and all the dirty from my fuel tank was in the carb....So I don't no if this help

Good Luck

Check the wire that goes to the solenoid on the side of the carb. IT is a fuel cutoff that only allows fuel through the carb when there is power there.

It is about an inch (round) by and inch and a half with 1 wire going to it.

Hush

Check the cap, rotor, and plugs. When my cap's center button decided to take a vacation in the bottom of the distributor, it would barely idle, but ran decently at high RPM (though lacking a bit of power).
