Will my 4wd housing bolt on a 2wd transaxle?

Featured Replies

I busted the tranny out of my brat a while back. I have been told that 4wd unit will bolt up on a 2wd trany from matching years . Can anyone confirm this.

Curent trans 4spd. is out of an 85 Brat , replacement is 5spd. out of 86 GL.

Mounting is not an issue, just the bolt on compatability.

Time to hunt! must have Brat! :headbang:

I'm not the best to be answering this question, but since nobody else has ponied up, I'll suggest that the 2WD tranny will bolt right up to your Brat without issue.

The flywheel/clutch might be smaller in diameter on the 2WD than the 4WD, but either should work.

Why do you want to turn your Brat into a 2WD vehicle ? ? ? I guess if you don't need the 4WD you would end up with better gearing with the 5 speed.

I think he means he want to bolt the transfer case from a 4wd box onto a 2wd box. I dont actually know, but i suspect it wont work.

Yep the idea is to mount the 4wd unit onto the formerly 2wd tranny, However now that you mention it, I might end up just having a 2wd brat for a while if it wont work.

Mostly I never spend money I dont have to , since I'd dont have any and if I did I'd much rather spend it on misc. hunting supplies.
