  1. There realy should be a drainplug in the tank (LOOK) it's the 14mm bolt in the bottom of the gastank. If not, just run a hotwire from the battery to the fuel pump.
  2. Broken cord in a tire, check yer tires for lump or side-to-side variences in the tread lines (easiest when jacked up off the ground) just stick it in first and watch the tread. while you got it in the air shake the tires top to botoom and side to side looking for and freeplay Check your lugnuts. wheel bearings growl on the road, especially notacable when turning. A siezed axle will lumpa lumpa lumpa down the road. Rotors rarely if ever shake without applying the breaks.
  3. O2 sensors are always in the first section of exhaust pipe
  4. All Transaxle seals I have ever encountered just pop out with a screwdriver. Just pull the axle, stick the blade of a BIG screwdriver in behind the seal, between the seal and the trany and twist your wrist levering the seal out of its place "E-Z". place the new seal flush against the hole where the seal seats. place a large socket or old wheel bearing over the seal and gently tap if flush stuff the axle back in and your good to go. NOW if there are 3 bolts holding it in place, well remove them and follow the same steps as much as is nessasary.
  5. Does the fan run when the A/c is on? Why do you have AC anyway =P? MAKE SURE THE FAN CYCLES!Replace the thermostat, check for colapsed hoses, If it has a fanclutch replace it if it spins freely. Lug it up a steep hill, does it heat up? Flo test the radiator. If you do all that and it still heats up do the head gaskets.
  6. I have installed 100's of clutches and I have NEVER heard of a 0 mark on the pressure plate or anything like that. Some dodges need to be correctly aligned on the torque converter, but thats it. Just slap that puppy back in there, More than likely there are dowels that will only align in one position. use the line-up tool on the clutchplate, cause it makes life easier. Grease the shaft a little. And manhandle the trany back into alignment. bolt it up and be done with it. It's an 1 1/2 hour job at most. Dont let em tell yah different. Good luck
  7. Sealing the distributor is the biggie, Ive had water slosh half way up the windshield on my brat without sucking water, but the steam F's up the distributor about 100 yds later. A snokel is a must if your gonna get serious. A surgical glove can be duct taped around the dist run the wires through a finger. Also, water inside the coil wire ends will cause sum trouble. NEVER! SHUT OFF THE ENGINE! with the exhaust pipe under-water. Always service ALL the fluids and housings after a nice swim. It will save you alot of trouble in the end. Venting all the housings inside the vehical is a good Idea. Also when crossing a flooded stream in my 78 wagon I floated about 5 yards down stream. It was uncomfortable. But in bigger water it could be deadly, use yer head and have fun.
  8. One thing To consider , almost all the blown up subaru engines sitting around our shop are ea82's not an ea81 in the lot.
  9. Yep the idea is to mount the 4wd unit onto the formerly 2wd tranny, However now that you mention it, I might end up just having a 2wd brat for a while if it wont work. Mostly I never spend money I dont have to , since I'd dont have any and if I did I'd much rather spend it on misc. hunting supplies.
  10. When my battery went dry in my 78 wagon the voltage regulator (external) freiked out, fried my Radar detecter and popped the headlights. Sumthing to consider.
  11. I busted the tranny out of my brat a while back. I have been told that 4wd unit will bolt up on a 2wd trany from matching years . Can anyone confirm this. Curent trans 4spd. is out of an 85 Brat , replacement is 5spd. out of 86 GL. Mounting is not an issue, just the bolt on compatability. Time to hunt! must have Brat!
