New owner of a 96 outback wagon 2.5l AT. Two issues I wonder if anyone has input on:

1.) keyless entry wont lock or unlock doors. the remote is okay in that the control box under the dash is getting a signal (clicking sound when unlock button is pressed, turn signals flash). nothing happens when lock button is pushed. loose wire? suggestions please...

2.) a significant "jump" as AT goes between first and second gears. i got a 3yr/36k warranty when I bought the car, and wonder if i should use it to replace the tranny. thoughts?

I had one of these cars that I purchased new and owned until it was totalled out last year. I didn't have keyless entry, so I can't address problem 1. Problem 2 is a non-problem; mine always shifted abrupty on the shift from first to second gear. This was a strong transmission that I preferred to the automatic in my newer cars. Frankly, I prefer a hard-shifting automatic to a soft-shifting one.

mccrary666,

My 97 OBW had the AT and never in 169 000 km shifted hard. I would suggest that you have a tech you trust, check yours out. As for the wireless door locks, I assume that you mean that the remote can address the receiver module, but that the doors themselves do not lock and unlock? Do the power door lock switches activate the locks? I assume that they do. If so, it sounds like you need to get to the wiring of the remote receiver and trace it back to the power door lock circuits. There's got to be a broken wire or corossion somewhere. Hope this is of some help!
