October 14, 200520 yr Hi all i have a 91 liberty (legacy) GX 4WD auto station wagon and i have after hard thinking decided to start modifing it as it is an auto wish to change it to manual, i kno wat is needed to be done to change it 2 manual after having done it to nissan S13's. i want to use the EJ25TT as a base powerplant as i want to do his i want to use the gearbox that would come with this engine, knowing i would buy a half cut of a 96 jap spec legacy with a EJ25TT and manual box. my question is can i use the manual box from this engine or do i have to use the stock 91 box, as this is my main concern that the new box won't marry up in relation to where the old box was. any info or pictures of someone who has done this before would be very much apicated.
October 14, 200520 yr hi, sounds like an awsome project... as for being an ej25tt, i might be wrong but it will be a EJ20tt.(which is a very proven powerplant) they ej25turbo is a relitivly new powerplant. the tt powerplant and trany should work fine. the only thing is if you car is left hand drive the second turbo will sit right where you stearing shaft is. if you have a RHD then you will be ok....... the only other thing is your car should be a cable operated clutch and the tt car should be a hydrolic clutch. but if you getting a front clip you should have everything to make it work.... good luck and keep us uptodate
October 19, 200520 yr Author yeah man thanx did some info diggin me self and yeah it sould fit no prob and as it is RHD the turbo shouldn't hit the steering shaft, will take me time on this one and should be completed next year?, new engine is being subjected to new internals and all the usal and expected mods. first mods, vented slotted rotors and the front brakes being fitted on the back, coilover supension and sway bars to start it off will post pics if im not feeling lazy
October 20, 200520 yr check the au subaru board there are alot of tt subs runing around auz and there is alot of info on the ausubaru board.... dont know the link havnt been there in a while later brian
December 20, 200520 yr Author getting to the coversion soon got the money now just need to pick me power plant so: in the quest for more power, half cut of ethier a '93 liberty sgl turbo 5 speed' or a '93-96 wrx 5 speed' or keep with the twin turbo engine idea? would like to hear ur view on it as im new wid soobs and don't have that much of an idea (nissan and toyota diff story lol) plus will there be anything that will be nessery to do/convert when the new motor goes in? (tranny wise espeically) and dose anyone kno some good site where someone has done this kind of thing before or a site filled with liberty's/legacys with turbo conversions? thanks PS: car is still stock got lazy so figure now do the engine first everything else l8r
December 20, 200520 yr i could be wrong. but i am almost sure that the TT only came with an auto trany. but it should mate right up to any EJ 5sp. so you would have to find one of those also.
December 20, 200520 yr sounds like a sweet swap. sorry i can't be of much help, i plan on doin a ej22 in my hatch this spring when i start working more
December 22, 200520 yr what i would reccomend is that you go with a 93-96 wrx motor, the EJ20G has the same sort of specs as the TT legacy, closed deck, etc. but truely the 16G single turbo is better than the 2 turbos on the legacy, there is that terrible "valley of death" when the turbos switch which is no good for performance. but i have no experiance with them first hand and im sure either way would be pretty awesome, with the wrx motor you could get a 5spd tranny as well, just try to get the rear end stuff youll need as well.
