Fault codes 97 outback

Can somone tell me how to check for a fault code on a 97 outback EJ25 auto. is this something i can do at home? where can i find a list of what each code means. Thanks in advance.

 

Gillans used to drive a Mitsubishi Canter 4wd now had to downsize. Is that a bad thing?I DON'T THINK SO.:D

You will need a code reader that uses the ISO 9141 protocol. Here is a link to the unit I purchased. It will handle all the common protocols and the new CAN BUS also. At the link you can type in a error code in the window to find out what the error is.
