November 3, 200520 yr i called several places for my 93 impreza, they all quote higher than honda, toyota timing belt jobs, one place even said $550 because he said there are two belts, another said it costs because it a subaru after some reading from the PDF, i know 93 has only one belt, and it seems to be pretty straightforward, but the PDF recommends taking out the fans and radiator, i want to keep things simple, is the job possible without removing the radiator?
November 4, 200520 yr I just did mine last week. Take the radiator out (2 12mm bolts), it gives you more room to see and do. Also you probably need to flush the rad anyway - right? The job is doable with it in but more knuckle busting in my opinion. Get a Haynes manual. It will walk you through if unfamiliar. rd
November 4, 200520 yr YEah, it IS more lengthy than on a Toyo-Honda. As mentioned above, you could do it with the rad in place, but it will make the job a lot harder than need be. Rad-in is only for seasoned Sube mechs with the correct proprietary tools.
November 4, 200520 yr This has been often discussed, You will want to do maintenance on the oil pump while disassembled this far, which is only pennies extra in parts, and most people will also replace the water pump as any future failure will require redoing the timing belt work.
November 4, 200520 yr t/belt jobs are a piece of cake i do them all the time at work. like said do your water pump and oil pump and make sure that you check all your idlers and tensioner, i recomend replacing the idlers each time the belt is done but its up to u.
