how hard is to do impreza timing belt?

Recommended Posts

i called several places for my 93 impreza, they all quote higher than honda, toyota timing belt jobs, one place even said $550 because he said there are two belts, another said it costs because it a subaru

after some reading from the PDF, i know 93 has only one belt, and it seems to be pretty straightforward, but the PDF recommends taking out the fans and radiator, i want to keep things simple, is the job possible without removing the radiator?

I just did mine last week. Take the radiator out (2 12mm bolts), it gives you more room to see and do. Also you probably need to flush the rad anyway - right? The job is doable with it in but more knuckle busting in my opinion.

Get a Haynes manual. It will walk you through if unfamiliar.

This has been often discussed, You will want to do maintenance on the oil pump while disassembled this far, which is only pennies extra in parts, and most people will also replace the water pump as any future failure will require redoing the timing belt work.
