Help!! I killed it!!!!!

Featured Replies

Ok, so I put on a new intake on my carbbed EA81, I used an SPFI snorkel, and ditched the air box, it ran good for about a minute, then started idling real rough, and it wants to die as I take off from a stop.

I noticed a little valve on the air box that is called the idle compensating valve or something, this is connected into the filter now. Still no dice.

However!! I noticed an exhaust leak at the cat-to-tail pipe flange, and it seems pretty big.

Can an exhaut leak make the car idle really rough, and want to die on acceleration?

Thanks

Rick

Yes! If the leak is big enough it can. I had an exhaust manifold leak on my suby and it idled real rough and wanted to die at stops too. If i didn't completly floor it it would die. Not to mention it sounded like hell.

Sweet, I'll have to fix it tomorrow then at like 5am before I go to work and see if that helps.

I also had the little compensator in the wrong place, that smoothed the idle out a little, but now it's a little hard starting, and backfires.

It has to be the exhaust like you said.

Thanks Hatchsub!!!

Soon Jeff, soon.....I patched the exhaust together using a small bottle of liquid copper gasket, and a "new" gasket in between the other two that were on there.

I need to get one from the dealer!!!

We'll see if it works!
