last night it wasn't turning over. the dash lights slowly got brighter and no other cliking... this morning it fired right up! loose wire or siolenoid sticky?

I'd check the solenoid. They have a copper contact plate, and over time arcing builds carbon up on them. You can usually just clean them up with a file or some emery cloth and they're good as new.
