Featured Replies

Found reason for knock, and other problems. Learned alot as first tear down.

Will rebuild during the winter and pester you guys for rebuild info later.:)

Main bearing race is gone, sever piston slap/grindage... interesting piston cyclender wall still looks very good.

Suspect someone ran this motor with loss of oil...

Later and thx for all the info on prior posts...

How does the crankshaft center main journal look?

......

Well, not that bad I think... No deap gouges or anything...

This engine appears to have been reworked and something caused it to go the second time.... crank could be warped or who knows?

If this Crank is damaged, warped or what ever do they evern mess with these or can you buy a new one? I will contact the local machine shop that does the work for the local Subaru dealer and see if he can work these.

I could post a picture if you want.

my guess being that unless abused or ran long along time with 0-low oil psi that the softer metal of the bearing took most of the abuse

like it is supposed to

and the crank "should be good"

take a fingernail and drag it across the crank bearing surface if it catches/hangs up.. yeah it needs machined

as far as machine work goes they can remove enough material to make it perfect again

problem is .. how much material does that involve

you can get over sized main bearings to account for that not the greatest idea in my opinion

but. it works and if you can't afford much like me then its better than nothing :)

just my breakfast vodka induced .000000000002 cents

take the crank to a shop have them inspect it and give you a guesstimate on how much they have to remove and the price to do it

then go find out how much oversized bearings will cost to fit that crank if they grind it down

then try and find out the price for a good used stock /non ground down crank and bearings

and compare it to the machined crank with oversized bearings

and then go with what you can afford

thats pretty much what i would do

and in fact i bet i will be doing i soon in the near future

unless i can dig up a runing turbo motor for my rx so i can drive it and take my time building a super poor mans motor that will alst longet than i bet i live woot!!!! lol
