What will fit in my '79 4wd Wagon...

Featured Replies

As the title says what can I swap into my '79 4wd Wagon. Emmisions and some custom fabrication are not a concern. But I don't want to be buying custom half-shafts, drive-shafts etc. I'm only looking for around 100hp so I'm not greedy. It'd be nice to bring a LSD and 5-speed along with the deal too. I, of course, want to retain 4wd. Thanks for any advice!

now that's a beautiful looking ute :slobber: not to mention that front bumper on the outback :slobber:

you can swap in an ea81 easily enough. with a few mods to that engine (weber, cam, mild engine work) it can easily enough have 100 HP. Otherwise, an ea82T swap has been done. try a search, and that should give you a few ideas. Hope this jelps

Any chance of a EJ22? Does anybody make an adapter plate for it... or could I modify one?

contact tailgatewagon, he has done the ej22 swap into a 79 wagon. he did have to use the ej22 tranny i believe.

i never completed the swap. i did fit the engine into the engine bay but i never hooked up the trany.... lots of wiring and stuff and i sold the car to make room for a new project(one that i hope will be finished)

you could buy the adapter plate and mate the ej22 to a dr5speed, but you will have a very tight fit. some frame cutting will be needed. and lots of other extras.... if i were you i would fit an ea81.. my old wagon had one(1979) and it would do 80mph....
