2wd vrs 4wd gearing

Featured Replies

I have an 86 4x4 wagon 5spd D/R and in the snow in 2wd with good snow tires i just spin and spin it will go but takes a lot of rpms to move.(Of course if i put in 4 she goes like a champ) I know i have 3.90 gears so my question is do 2wd cars have different gears because i seen a lot of folks on here that have 2wd and they say they can go allmost any place a 4wd will go!

It's not gearing, it is traction; or, more precisely, maintaining traction. AFAIK, the gearing is identical, or nearly so.
