Heater Console Sick...Goes Clickity Click

Featured Replies

My heat/cooling console is clicking and draining small amounts of power from my engine when its engaged. i think it may not be grounded or just a bad heater unit. Anyone know what going on?

Just changed out the heater core in the 90 Legacy. Finally! Couldn't have done it with out you guys!

Yeah, its the same 90 legacy.

It may be the a/c engaging but it happens when its on every setting and temp.

I haven't used the A/C for years. I'm sure the freon is totally depleated, Its a Summer 06 project.

How could I check it?

If it happens on every setting it's not the a/c. the a/c compressor only engages when on a/c, a/c max, and the two def settings.

Could it be a bad climate control console?

It still works fine, its just really annoying, but at least the heat works again.

It doesn't sound good for the engine either.

You sure it's not the a/c compressor engaging and disengaging?

After testing it on my way home I've discovered it is just on the Def/A/c settings.

How do I stop/improve the engaging of the A/C compressor?

Does the clicking noise come from the engine compartment? Have you opened the hood with the AC running? If the compressor is making noise, there's really not much you can do. You could pull the wire at the compressor, and that will disable it though if you just don't want to deal with it.
