New Subaru owner, just got a 93 Legacy 4WD

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Just did a switch from VW. I was lookig for a new car, an this 93 4WD Legacy L 5 speed jumped out at me. A friend of mine who is a mechanic at the dealer manage to get a trade in put aside and I bought it for 500$, and I negociated a brand new clutch, pressure plate and clutch bearing at cost, as well as a new battery for free.

The very bad:

Needs a clutch yesterday

The power steering tubes ar rusted and leaking

(Will be done together next week)

The bad:

Oil pump gasket starting to go

(Will be done this summer at the same time as timing belt)

The annoying:

A little too much rust (spot, only 2 wholes, 1 inch and 2 inches) (will be fixed locally next summer)

Timing belt so so (this summer)

Rear brakes need to be done this summer

Rear wiper not working, seems jammed, I can hear the relay click though. Will look at it next week.

The worriesome

Check engine light came on when I installed the new battery. I guess there was not enough voltage on the old one to trigger codes. Will check it out next week.

The good:

Floor, body in excellent shape.

Nice handling, straight, even when braking hard

Clean interior.

Solid shocks, front brakes, engine and tranny

Any advice on the above problems, as well as potential things to look for and how to care ?

Expect to see me often !

Cheers

JF
