Elevation and Running issues...

Featured Replies

I just descovered with my Trip to Jerry's and back, that my car ('84 Brat) only is misfireing when it's in the higher elevations. I had all sorts of lack of power problems there and back. But it started running normally again once I got down into the Puget Sound Lowlands. Wich indicated to me it only likes running at sea-level. Could this be a bad air filter? I'll be checking it in a couple days, But I'm thinking it might mean my carbrator is too lean, or something. Just doesn't get enough air down the pipe when it's 1000 feet or higher. Any thoughts are much appreciated, thanks!

The higher up you go the richer it should run. However, with more fuel in the mix the harder the ign sys has to work to fire it. Check the usual stuff, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ect.

Ahhh, ignition strength has a big part in it, ok. My coil isn't very strong so I'm replacing it. I think it's gotten way to old. I'll give the car a good ol tune up. Thanks for the info!:)
