January 8, 200620 yr OK. It seems as though my rpm's rise in the middle of shifting. This is 4EAT. It also seems as though it either, doesn't happen after being completely warmed up, or is far less apparent when warmed up. In my ongoing hunt for a cheap SVX with good tranny, I recall seeing something on an SVX Board about it possibly a result of the bands being too tight or too loose. Although I view this as more of an annoyance than hinderance, I would still like to know what may be causing this so I can fix at my discretion. TIA.
January 8, 200620 yr the haynes manual says if the engine revs between shifts the band needs to be tighter,if it has a braking effect between shifts the band is too tight.there is a section on this in the haynes.

January 17, 200620 yr The brake band adjustment only controls certain shifts. What shift do you notice the raise in RPM's? Is it all gears or one in particular? Adjusting the brake band can be a pain. Here's the procedure for the first gen legacies. http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/transbrakebandadj.jpg

So I'm pretty certain it's on the downshift from 3rd to 2nd. However, as I mentioned, there is a slight rise in RPM between all shifts when cold. It is less noticeable in higher gears. i.e. 3rd-4th. I think the MOST important is 2nd to 3rd. I found a REALLY detailed guide cached on google from a site no longer around. I converted it to a PDF before it was lost forever. If anyone would like a copy, let me know and I will set you up with an FTP account. Here's the current link to the cached HTML version. Before I post the adjustment link, Please note the procedure where he talks about tightening the adjustment screw, then loosening it "three turns"??? W T F? If someone could please explain, it would be greatly appreciated. http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:sILherugPtkJ:www.ravensblade-impreza.com/techdocs/pdf/transmission/band.pdf+*Adjusting+4EAT+Tranny+Bands*&hl=en&client=firefox-a More from the same: ALL you need to know about the 4EAT.
