Axle replacement help, please!!

I have a 86 loyal wagon and I'm planning on replacing my right front axle tomorrow. I was wondering if it's as simple as taking off the wheel nut, popping out the ball joint and sliding the axle out of the trans.. then reverse the process? Is there anything helpful I should know before starting or if theres anything else I should need or replace while in there??
