EASY way to direct wire radar detector?

Featured Replies

I'm a new owner of a '05 Outback Ltd. Great car, I love it. What's the EASIEST way to direct wire a radar detector? I mean EASY. I'm no mechanic by any means. I've heard about wiring into the fuse box or splicing into wires. What wires? Where? How do I get to them? Or to the fuses without removing all kinds of trim? HELP! I know there's a speeding ticket waiting for me. This Outback makes driving fast fun.

If you want to hardwire the radar detector, your best bet is to use a test light or a multimeter and figure out where an ignition power wire and ground are. Tap into them, and hook up the radar detector to it.

You'll probably have to take some of the plastic pieces off the dash to get at things.

i'd do it to your cigarette lighter/outlet thing, it's only on when the ignition is (at least in my car), you ahve to pull out the center console, including the radio & stuff to get easy access to the plug wires. You can use those blue splice things to tap that power to bring it to whereever you mount the detector.

Just a side note, i'd wire it on disconnector things, because some states it's not legal to have the detector in the car! (even if it's not on)
