Just Received My 2006 Outback Limited

Hello to all you Subaru Nuts,

I just picked up my new outback on Friday from Larry H. Miller in Salt Lake City. I had sometime to look it over this past Saturday. Things have changed some from my 2002 outback. Looks like Subaru has cheapened a few things - more plastic. I guess that's expected in an dog eat dog economy. I drove it home to Idaho Falls (250 miles) and it rides and drives wonderfully.

 

I've got questions that I know someone will have an answers to.

 

Using a floor jack, where is the best place to lift the front and rear ends from?

 

Where is the recommended locations for positioning jackstands?

 

Where is the best place to purchase service manuals?

rear diff for the back and the lil plate that covers the bottom of the engine cross member for using a floor jack on it. As for the front, there should still be "subaru frame rails" the jack stands will go there.

 

And for the back, I'd use the control arm...

Tell me more about these frame rails. Are they the rails a few inches inside of the normal jacking location behind the front wheels or are they the same as the normal jacking location (emergency tire changing), just below the doors? As I look under the vehicle I see two support channels. One on each side of the vehicle. These channels have drain holes through them. Are these channels strong enough to support the weight of the vehicle?

they are NOT the same spot you'd use the stock subaru jack. they are in about 10 inches from that outer lip that the stock jack goes on. I personally havent looked under a 2006, but on the last 30 years of subaru's they've used the same "frame rails" in the same spots on every car.

 

As for the "drain" holes, you are looking at the frame rails. I use a block 4x6 block of wood when I jack them up there. it helps spread the weight out from the head of the jack.

 

That is the spot that any lube shop would use to lift the car with the big rotary lifts so you shouldnt have any problems.

 

I'd be more worried about jackstands on the control arms in the back more than the front.
