January 16, 200620 yr Okay, first post here so bear with me. I have a 1989 subaru SW, automatic, AWD, FI. On the back it says "GL". Is this the same thing as a loyale? I'm trying to repair the brakes and when I try to look up parts on various sites, there is often no "GL" option to choose. Also, where do I look to identify the engine's size? I know with brakes the engine size probably doesn't matter, but if I go to an autoparts store, they'll inevitably ask and it'd be nice to have the correct answer. Anybody have any experience in messing with subaru brakes? They work, but sink pretty bad when slowing. If you pump them, they build up well. I've bled the brakes numerous times and have not seen any leaks in the lines. I looked through the haynes repair manual and did the tests on the power booster. It seemed to pass okay. There was no way to test the master cylinder listed, so I'm not positive that is the problem. Other items I've seen, but am unable to check are the self adjusters on the rear tires and the hill holder, which I'm not even sure what is. Anybodies help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to give this car to my wife, but she refuses to drive it until I get the brakes fixed. Thanks in advance, Nate
January 16, 200620 yr Your engine on that car is a EA82.I am pretty sure the brake parts from a loyale should work as well. You will need a tool to turn in those caliper pistons though. They don't push right in you have to turn them.Good luck.
