Hey New to Suabaru

Featured Replies

I am looking at getting a new Subaru impreza 2dr 5sp. I am personnaly not a huge fan of Subaru YET, but I love the power of the STi and heard that besides wiring, the '03-04' Sti engine, tranny, rear eand, everything right down to the brakes pretty much bolt up. Of course there is always need for some modification in these type of projects. I attended Wyotech and took their Chassis Fabrication/High Performance Engines program which tought me everything about setting up and designing your own suspension. Back halfing a vehicle for strength or for doing the lowrider thing. Anyway im not afraid of a big project and dont plan on doing it in a weekend in my driveway. Just looking for some input from anyone who might know more on the subject. And wish me luck on purchasing my first Subaru.

Yeah I went for another test drive today and might get it next week. I got to make room in our driveway. Theres 3 people here and theres already 4 vehicles so you can see the dilemma. Its a Teal 1995 2dr Impreza. Also was wondering if anyone knows of simple power adders until I start the big transformation. I am guessing a few years before i can afford to build a garage. Maybe I can find someone willing to let me start a project like this in theirs. Anyways all the help would be appreciated.

assuming its a 2.2 do the basics, try intake, exhaust (something fit for a turbo), fuel pump, rising rate fuel pressure regulator, etc.. sticking to the bolt-ons which alot of will transfer to the new motor. also upgrade your cooling system while your at it. maybe not a must, but always a good idea.

just my opinion

The engine wiring is about as far away from chassis setup as you can get on a car. It will all bolt in, you may have to mix and match some parts, but it will all work. You might try www.nasioc.com as they do a lot of the swaps over there, and are probably more documented.

Over here Dr.RX did an STi swap into a late 90's impreza much like you plan on doing, he'll tell you, and i'll tell you, after my own 2.2 EJ swap, the wiring is typically strightforward, but nowhere near "easy" and at a minimum, i would get a Factory Service Manual for the engine you are swapping into the car, i'd also reccomend the recipient's FSM as well, so you can integrate the wiring harnesses together for minimum hassle.

As an ASE tech i can tell you that this is a thinking swap, not a hammer and pry bar job, so unless you plan on getting real good at soldering, and really like your DVOM, this may not be right for you, this is in no way to discourage you, rather to get you to do your homework beforehand, so that you have everything you need before you start to avoid getting discouraged and quitting in the middle.
